This exhibit showcases work from the past decade of town garden tours, which is an annual tradition benefiting the horticulture therapy program at Barclay Friends.
Typically, artists are assigned a garden in which to work during the course of the tour. This exhibit is the first chance to look at work created on and inspired by the tour, outside of the garden space.

Now pleased to announce that I have returned to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts as an
Alumni Studio Fellow
This is following the untimely closure of the 915 Spring Garden studio building, where I had been located the past more than five years.
I will miss its extremely convenient location, high ceilings, enormous windows, and long history (hi hallway-mates Janell and Peter !). I will not miss its pests and terrible insulation.
My new PAFA studio is exactly one floor above my previous one, from 2008-2010, and so looks identical in every way, which is somewhat strange. But it's neat to be around so many students making work again (and to see Scott Noel painting regularly in the foyer of my floor).Mural Arts Program Summer Internship
Getting some extra, outside of my teaching duties, mural-making experience this summer, as a part of the Independence Foundation Summer Internship Program!
It's a great schedule because I get to spend the morning as part of the artist crew, and then Assistant Teach on the same mural (81 panels! and designed by the too cool Kim Beck) in the afternoon when the students arrive.
As the person in charge of the class blog, I can direct you to some

I was asked, following my portrait painting demo during the "PAFA at Baldwin" exhibit, to lead a watercolor workshop at the Upper School Arts Day for the students at this prestigious Bryn Mawr school. We worked on still lifes and some experimental techniques. Watercolor seems both the ubiquitous and the forgotten paint medium.

AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2011
Wish You Were There presents the work of eight Philadelphia-based artists grappling with ideas about the natural world. Featured works draw from a range of references-- from traditional landscape and still-life painting, to pop culture postcards and technicolor photographs, to scientific illustration and visual taxonomies, to more idiosyncratic, obsessive and personal visions. This grouping of work reveals the complexity of the urban dweller's relationship to real or imagined ideas of a geographical, ecological "other". Beyond mere escapist fantasy, Wish You Were There highlights the variety of ways that we experience, interpret, project ourselves onto and lose ourselves in "nature" or an amorphous, and often greener "beyond".

Art Gala 2010 and Philadelphia Art Salon on the Main Line
Apologies for not posting until after the fact, but this past weekend (11/12-14) I participated in two large group shows:
* Art Gala 2010 in Unionville, PA -- a show which has grown quite a bit over its approximately 35 years, and now includes almost 100 artists from the community
* Philadelphia Art Salon on the Main Line -- a show of similar size, put together by "artist and innovator" Caryn Kunkle, who hosts a monthly salon for Philly artistsPhiladelphia Open Studio Tours
This weekend, October 9 and 10, come visit my studio as part of POST!
A great number of artists' studios east of Broad Street will be open from noon - 6pm for visitors both days, including mine -- which is listed as part of The Sleepwalkers' Collective (sleepwalkerscollective.blogspot.com).
I can be found at 915 Spring Garden (an enormous studio building with so many other stops on the tour, right there!), studio #116.
>This will also be the final weekend of the Boys Life show at Pterodactyl Creative Project Space -- which came together beautifully...Portraits at the Oxford Arts Alliance
Three of my portraits from the year between undergrad and PAFA will be in this show, opening Friday (along with work from the chair of the program from which I just graduated, Dan Miller).

I will be in a curated show with three PAFA alumni (and one other artist) at Pterodactyl Creative Project Space.
Zach Martin and Sarah Jackson Moore summed it up in their proposal:
"This exhibit will explore youth and nature through the guise of Boy’s
Life Magazine. The Boy Scouts of America, the distributors of this
publication, have long been a leading shaper of the masculine youth in
this country. Specifically, our interest lies behind the conditioning
of adolescent white heterosexual boys and their connection to the
natural world in which they learn."
